Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has added a new Triton Xtreme derivative to its local range, with the boldly styled bakkie limited to just 50 units.

The local arm of the Japanese automaker says it took “customer feedback to the extreme” with the launch of the Triton Xtreme, which will be offered in 4×4 and 4×2 double-cab body styles, complete with the daring factory-installed body kit you see in the accompanying images. Power still comes from a 2,4-litre turbodiesel engine worth 133 kW and 430 N.m.

Mitsubishi says the new Triton Xtreme is fitted with more than R60 000 worth of additional features and accessories but will cost “a mere R20 000” more than the listed price of the standard double-cab derivative to which it is fitted. For the record, the standard 4×2 models are priced at R479 995 for the manual and R499 995 for the auto, while the standard 4×4 variants come in at R539 995 for the manual and R559 995 for the self-shifter.

Accessories include black and chrome alloy wheels (wrapped in Cooper Adventurer all-terrain rubber), bonnet guards, grille and foglamp covers, front and rear light guards, wheel arch extensions, front and rear door handle covers, Triton-branded scuff plates, heavy-duty rubber mats, a tonneau cover, a styling bar, a tailgate cover and a fuel-flap cover.

Mitsubishi SA says all the Xtreme’s accessories are covered by the original manufacturer’s three-year or 100 000 km factory warranty.
