Remember that mystery concept teaser image from a couple of weeks back? Well, Toyota has now officially unveiled the new FT-AC, showing off its latest “design experiment” at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Japanese automaker says the FT-AC (or “Future Toyota Adventure Concept”, to use its full name) is happy travelling on tar or off it.

Wherever it goes, it’ll certainly stand out, particularly if finished in that “Prospect Green” paintwork with grey accents. The front grille, meanwhile, is flanked by bright LED headlamps, while the fog lights are removable, doubling as portable lights. You’ll also notice the twin hooks for recovery up front, along with the obligatory skid-plates.

Toyota says the FT-AC was “designed around a long wheelbase and wide track”, while the wide fender flares frame 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber. There’s also a safari-style roof-rack, complete with LEDs at each corner.

There are even removable infrared cameras embedded in the side-mirrors (which Toyota reckons would be good for “recording trail runs”), with an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot automatically uploading footage to cloud-based storage. Round back, you’ll find an integrated, retractable bike rack.

No official word on the FT-AC’s powertrain, although Toyota says the concept “has been imagined as a thoroughly capable gasoline-powered vehicle with an advanced torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system”, before adding that the FT-AC could also offer a “next-generation hybrid powertrain that blends fuel efficiency with rugged all-wheel-drive grunt”.
